The Mission and Goals of Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging is to identify the needs of those citizens who are 60 years of age and older. The Area Agency develops and implements a plan for satisfying those needs on a priority basis and affirmatively seeks to change those conditions which either directly or indirectly pose barriers for those who wish to live independently in the community and to participate in a full and meaningful life.
The Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging, Inc. is a non-profit organization funded under the Older Americans Act, from Health and Human Services, the Administration on Aging, the Kansas Department on Aging, and local units of government, including the user of mill levy funds.
Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging, Inc. advocates on aging issues, builds community partnerships and implements programs within Shawnee, Jefferson, and Douglas counties to help seniors live independent and dignified lives.
Description:
Area Agencies on Aging are the only agencies serving the elderly that are named in federal law - the Older Americans Act. Current services provided include legal assistance, health screenings, in-home services and home delivered meals. JAAA receives state monies under the Senior Care Act and provides in-home services on a sliding fee scale to consumers. Additionally, JAAA provides case management, including an assessment,a plan of care, coordination of services delivery, monitoring and reassessment for seniors.

SRS has offices in each of the 105 counties statewide where direct services are offered for the programs and services administered by the agency. The 105 counties are organized into 11 administrative areas. The office coordinates the work of long-term care ombudsmen, who act as advocates for residents of long-term care facilities across the state. The office works to improve the quality of life for residents of long-term care facilities across the state. It also recruits and oversees the efforts of volunteer long-term care ombudsmen.
